Senior Software Engineer
Software Engineering
Australia
Visualcare is an Australian software platform built for NDIS and aged care providers. Our software helps providers manage their clients, workers, rostering, and timesheets, so their teams can spend more time on care and less on admin. We are a small engineering team building a product that genuinely matters to the people who use it every day — and as we keep growing, the quality of how we build matters as much as what we build.
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who delivers. This is a strong individual contributor role: you will own complex features end-to-end, hold a high bar on code quality and review, and implement the AI capabilities that are becoming a core part of what Visualcare delivers. You will work closely with the team on technical decisions, mentor the engineers around you through the quality of your work, and bring your own ideas on how to build things better. It suits someone who is genuinely good at shipping software, curious about how AI changes the way we build, and energised by working on a product that has real-world impact.
What You'll do
- Own the delivery of complex features end-to-end — design, build, test, and deploy — with a high bar for quality and limited need for oversight.
- Lead code reviews for your peers, maintaining standards and helping the team produce better work.
- Implement AI-powered product features: integrate LLM APIs, iterate on prompts, handle edge cases, and keep sensitive health and care data out of model inputs.
- Apply AI tooling across the SDLC to accelerate team delivery — code generation, review assistance, test coverage — and establish patterns the whole team can adopt.
- Contribute to architecture and system design discussions: surface tradeoffs, ask good questions, and help shape better technical decisions.
- Drive quality standards across the team — maintaining high test coverage, using observability tools (Datadog, CloudWatch) to understand system behaviour, and holding the bar others follow.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through pairing, code review, and day-to-day guidance.
- Work with the CTO, product, and design teams to turn requirements into working software — pushing for clarity when things are ambiguous.
What you'll Bring
- At least 5 years in software engineering, including a track record of owning complex features end-to-end in a SaaS product environment.
- Strong React, TypeScript, and Tailwind frontend skills, with solid PHP backend capability and comfort across the full stack.
- Practical experience using AI tooling in your development workflow, and hands-on experience implementing LLM-powered features in production.
- Ability to contribute to architecture and design discussions — not necessarily leading them, but helping the team make better decisions.
- Familiarity with AWS, Docker/Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tooling.
- A strong approach to code review: high standards, constructive feedback, and genuine investment in the quality of the people around you.
- High agency and comfort working with limited supervision in a small, high-trust engineering team.
Why Visualcare
- Thrive in a remote environment and work from (almost) anywhere in Australia. East Coast or Adelaide.
- Work with a product that has genuine impact. The software you build is used by care workers and providers every day - quality matters.
- Be part of a small, capable team where your work is visible and your ideas get heard, without layers of process between you and the people making decisions.
